I can't believe that it is the end of the year already. Suitcases are being taken out of the corners of closets and from under beds. Voices fill the dorm; all the girls are talking about what they are going to be doing over break. Some will be traveling as far as India and some will be staying right here in Ojai. I am really excited to be going home to NYC. I can't wait. There is nothing like being in New York City for the holidays. Before I take that journey, though, I have a million things to do here at school. For one thing, finals. Finals are really different this year for juniors because most of us are taking three hour finals for the first time, and we will not be proctored. This gives us a chance to take finals in places and settings that are more comfortable to us; it also demonstrates the school’s trust in its students and its belief that with age comes both privilege and responsibility. I have two finals tomorrow, two on Thursday, and my last one on Friday.
I am in Cabaret, which is our end of the year holiday show, so I have been practicing for that as well. It has been hard trying to find a balance between studying and practicing, but I am managing things pretty well. I just have a couple more days and first semester will be over. It has been a challenging semester that I thought would never end, but looking back on it, I have learned so much in such little time. It is amazing how fast the time goes. I really can't believe another semester is gone.
