I’m Sophie, a junior from Twin Butte, Alberta, Canada. I came to Thacher as a freshman. A friend of mine who attended an east coast prep school told me about Thacher. When I visited Thacher, I felt as if I already belonged—something I didn’t feel at the other schools I was accepted to. I think that feeling has most to do with how the faculty and students interact. It’s about friendship and genuine respect, in both directions. Right now, I am in Italy, studying with School Year Abroad.

Favorite class:
English, because every teacher I’ve had has been great!

People at Thacher who’ve influenced me:
Lots of schoolmates (people I know I will never lose touch with) and several teachers have become really important to me.

My experience at Thacher…
was at first really intimidating. Then I settled in and soon felt like I really belonged. I’m so grateful for all the people here I would never have known if I hadn’t taken the jump.
