Ever since I arrived at Thacher, I’ve had this desire to play football, but there was always something else more intriguing to do. Freshmen year it was the Horse Program: I had gotten really excited about riding and really wanted to focus on it improving my basic skills for Gymkhana season. Sophomore year, my enthusiasm for riding and gymkhana carried over and I decided to try out to be one of nine students chosen to compete in the Tri- School Gymkhana between Thacher, The Orme School, and Fountain Valley School. (We won.)
Finally, junior year rolls around and I’d made up my mind that this was my year for football. My brother had just graduated after a awesome season and the team was in need of another Wyatt. So far my decision to play football couldn’t have been better. While I’m not starting on Varsity, I am first string running back on the JV team and receiving lots of playing time. I have scored several touchdowns, the most recent (my first Varsity touchdown) in a game against Ojai Valley School which we won 45-25. The JV team is undefeated and were hoping to keep continue our streak of 1-0 in our game against Windward's JV on this Friday. Also, on Saturday we are playing Cate, a big rivalry game; we have been preparing for the last two weeks to maintain our winning record over them. While football has been fun, that is not to say that there hasn’t been a lot of hard work and long hours put in during pre-season practice, where we practice twice a day for a week, and normal practices after school. Lucky, football is one of those sport where it is well worth it to put up with the gruelling practices to play, what I think is one of the most exciting and emotionally charged games there is.
