Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written, but it’s been a hectic time for me. As a senior I’ve had to get through my Senior Exhibition outline. The SrEx is a year-long research project on a scholarly subject that you have chosen. I’ve devoted my time to researching Hip-Hop its connections to religion. I specifically have been looking for anti-Christian themes, ideas, doctrines, etc., in Hip-Hop and in religious organizations based upon Hip-Hop. I’ve found out so much and was somehow able to condense that into a 12-page outline, which I had to turn in not too long ago. I was a bit stressed out because I only provisionally passed the first time, meaning I have to revise some parts of my outline before it can be submitted to the archives. As soon as that’s done, I have the 45-minute presentation looming in the near future, which I must start preparing for now.
On top of everything else I had to sacrifice my life to the spring musical. This year we did Peter Pan, which was a beautifully large production. It involved awesome scenary, props, costumes, flying, and music, but it was a painful process to make everything come together. I was in the pit band (violin), and we had practices everyday for two weeks that lasted 4-6 hours. It was hard to find time to do work, let alone sleep. But in the end it was a great experience playing in a real pit for the first time in the new theatre, and for such a large audience. Also, playing with professional violinists this year really pushed me to challenge my skills, and I learned a lot about playing in the higher positions and how to play in an orchestra (for example, the musician on the left always turns the page for a pair).* * *
