Downhill Slope

by Kaja :: Tuesday May 9, 2006

The hardest part of the year is finally over! I have finished with my Senior Exhibition, which I feel went well (I passed). I did most of my presentation from memory and just had this single sheet of paper that Mr. Hooper, my advisor, had scribbled on in one of my practices. I paused at points and one of my videos didn’t work because the computer temporarily froze up, but I was able to recover by describing the video and relaxing. In my evaluation comments Ms. Breau said that I had moments that lasted 7-10 minutes of me just flowing, and seemingly having a conversation with my audience. That was exactly what Mr. Hooper and I tried to achieve in all my practices. It was an exciting weekend, finishing up on mine and seeing all my friends’ presentations, but I’m so glad all of that is all over. I’m one step closer to graduation…scary.

I also just took two APs last week – the AB Calc and Spanish Language. Neither was too easy, but I feel that I did well. My least favorite part was the oral sections on the Spanish test, where a taped voice asked us questions and we had to record our responses. Then we were given six pictures to make up a story about. It was all very nervewrecking having to speak into a machine, but I hope I did well on it. Either way, I don’t have to freak out about my scores until July. So my main plan for the summer is to work again at Cannery Rentals, the property management company in Newport Beach that I worked for last summer. They want me back which is really cool, because I loved it there and I could go to the beach during breaks and after I was finished. So I’m excited for that. I was also asked to be a counselor for the ABC orientation up at Menlo College this summer. That’s really cool because I remember being in those kids’ position just a couple of years ago, and now I could be applying to be a chaperone and counselor.

But I don’t want to start thinking too much about my summer because then that means by then I will be a Thacher graduate, and as exciting as that is, it is also really sad that my time here will be ending soon (just a couple of weeks). Until then, I want to take all the time I can to be with my friends, especially Meredith whom I love (she is the coolest sophomore ever).
