Finals and Homecooked Food

by Julie :: Wednesday November 21, 2007

At Thacher, we are each given an adviser each year (well, we get to choose once we're beyond freshman year), and my adviser this year is Ms. Manson. Last night, we had our third advisee dinner at her house, with the most amazing menu: home-made pizzas. She had the dough ready for us, and we each created our own mini-pizzas! (Mine was a BBQ chicken with some Gouda cheese.) This, along with the persimmon salad, was able to give me just the boost I needed to start my Finals Week.

Up until last year, we were on a semester system and had two finals a year;  now with the new trimester system, we have one day per trimester devoted to finals, with each solid course having one final a year and the other classes being evaluated by other ways--a shorter test or a project.

That time of the trimester has arrived with this Monday, along with the start of the winter sports season. Itʻs definitely different not having a whole week devoted to review and finals, but with the lower level languages testing today and final projects/presentations submitted, classes do feel like theyʻre wrapping up.

One thing everyone loves about finals week (aside from the prospects of thanksgiving break) are the finals treats. Whether theyʻre donuts, pizzas, ice cream or cereal, our dining hall prepares treats for the students so that we can have a little treat between the furious study sessions.

At the end of my first trimester of sophomore year, Iʻm excited to be heading back home for a break.
