Like every other senior at Thacher, I am expected to study a topic throughout the year through an exhibition program. I've decided to study the architecture of Chicago's World's Columbian Exposition and its effect on subsequent architecture in the United States. Because I'm really interested in architecture and art, history, and the city of Chicago, this topic seemed perfect for me. To begin my research, I have checked out various books from the library, ordered some other books online, and done a little bit of research online. Right now I am loving the project. Initially, I was worried that I would lose interest in the subject, but that hasn't been a problem so far.
At the same time, I'm taking AP Art History, a class that explores the history of Western and some Eastern art. So much of what I have learned in this class is about architecture, specifically Classical. Fortunately, this is unbelievably relevant to my Senior Exhibition, and I have had the chance to make lots of connections between these two subjects.
With Thanksgiving Break in a week, I will have the chance to relax and hopefully get some good reading in.
