Senior year so far

by Douglas :: Wednesday October 24, 2007

This may very well the be the first free moment I have had since September 1st, the day I returned to Thacher and summer ended.

Well, my summer was great. I went to Mexico for a month and participated in a homestay program. It was a great opportunity for me to use my Spanish and travel for a while. Afterwards, I went to New England and Florida with my family. During these weeks I had the chance to relax and mentally prepare myself for my senior year of high school.

Now that I am back, it seems that so little has changed. I'm already six weeks into the school year and I feel like I have been back forever. In addition to my five demanding classes, I have to manage college applications and a senior exhibition. I took the SAT on Saturday, had a biology test on Tuesday, an art history test on Monday and a Spanish essay due yesterday. As you can imagine, I'm a little bit stressed out.

While the work load this year is gigantic, I am also finding time to have fun. I went to a Shins concert with some friends on Saturday night, and attended concert on campus about an hour ago. I'm also tutoring at a local after-school program during the afternoons, playing with the kids after I help them finish their homework. It is a nice time to step away from campus, bring the Thacher and Ojai communities together, and brush up on my basic math (long division is harder than I remembered.)

Well, tomorrow morning I am off to the midwest to visit colleges and I have to write an Art History paper before my departure. I will update soon!
