DouglasHi, my name is Douglas and I live in Ojai, California. I am now a senior at Thacher and arrived as a freshman. I discovered Thacher through my dad’s friend, a Thacher graduate, after moving to Ojai from Chicago in seventh grade.

What I like best about living/studying at Thacher:
I love afternoon horseback rides with friends in the Los Padres National Forest (right behind the campus), learning among thoughtful, intelligent and mindful students, and living by Thacher’s honor code.

My favorite class is/classes are
Spanish and math because I feel accomplished after each class, having developed an understanding of a new subjunctive tense or a factoring method.

People at Thacher—peers, schoolmates, faculty, staff, others—who have influenced me positively and how:
After two whole years at Thacher as a day student, I have come to realize the value of our teachers in and outside of the classroom. The intelligent and experienced adults working to teach us are always available for help. The faculty at Thacher will do anything to help the students succeed, a substantial difference from any other high school, and that has made all the difference in my career at Thacher.

Advice for someone thinking about going away to school or specifically coming to Thacher:
To those looking at boarding school and specifically Thacher, take advantage of our incredible admissions office. They are ready and able to give you all the answers or encouragment that you may need in the admissions process.

My experience at Thacher has been/is
an experience. At Thacher, I have tried so many different activities that I could never experiment with in a bigger school. From sports, to theater to camping, my two years at Thacher have given me the chance to try new things.
