The end of any year here at Thacher is an especially hectic time. For the Thacher senior in particular, the spring term usually marks the culmination of many projects and classes that had their start in the fall term. The notables include AP classes and, of course, the Senior Exhibition, which culminates in a 30-minute long presentation to fellow Thacher students. I, for one, thoroughly enjoy the spring term for just this reason. Reviewing for the Advanced Placement exams, for instance, has brought me a great sense of personal achievement especially in realizing the numerous concepts, equations, words, and people that I have learned, understood, personalized, and acquainted myself with over the course of a now closing academic year. Whether this involved looking back on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from sophomore year or remembering every single irregular verb from my first year of French, looking back and remembering such stories and patterns has provided me with many opportunities to come to truly appreciate what I have learned here.
The Senior Exhibition program has in the same way given me a sense of achievement. There’s nothing like the feeling provided by presenting a topic (the physiology of running) that one has spent countless hours researching (through articles and interviews) and then understanding (by creating some of my own training regimens). In the end, it is pretty easy to see that programs like the Senior Exhibition program and those AP classes in which I have participated here at Thacher have provided me with important practice and experience that will be invaluable as I enter the college environment in the fall of 2005.
(My next entries will be coming your way from Stanford.)
