Bel

My name is Bel (short for Belsasar) and I come from nearby Oxnard, CA. I enrolled as a new sophomore and am currently a freshman at Stanford University. Family friends recommended Thacher to me and I am very glad that I made the decision to enroll here, especially now, as I’m beginning to look back on the whole experience.

Like best about Thacher:
the great number of riding and running trails that are just a step away. The many beautiful views of the Ojai Valley don’t hurt either!

Favorite class:
Java and Engineering, because programming is one of my favorite hobbies. Working with the Legos Mind-Storm equipment to create vehicles and robots that accomplish specific goals (walking, playing “soccer,” following a black line) is another reason I enjoy this class.

Influential people at Thacher:
The experience of training with the cross country team here has had a tremendous impact upon me. Cheering others on and learning to work together to achieve a common goal are two of the many valuable lessons which my teammates helped to reinforce in me.

Advice:
The Thacher community is a very intimate one and, for me, it has become something of an extended family. Also, the dynamics of the classroom and the energy which every member of the faculty brings to the classroom are extraordinary and leave what I know must be a lasting impression upon any student who has the chance to experience them. If these qualities interest you, look no further: Thacher’s the school for you!

My experience at Thacher has been…
a challenging but always enjoyable ride that’s allowed me to mature into a much more community-conscious and academically oriented young man.
