Skating Through Finals--and on Ice

by Alina :: Friday July 14, 2006

The end of Sophomore year went by at the speed of light. Packing was a lot easier this year, because I knew just how and when to start labeling, taping, and boxing just about everything in my dorm room. Having put three previous finals weeks behind me, I was able to complete my end-of-year exams with confidence. The key to my success, during finals week, was to start preparing for them on day one of classes. Having everything meticulously organized may have been a pain on a day-to-day basis, but once exams came around, it was a breeze to study.

Since junior year is just around the corner, summer’s going to be practically as busy as my school year! I have taken up lessons again with my violin instructor of twelve years, and am finally learning how to master the Cadenza in Mozart’s Concerto no. 3, a piece i have been studying independently for over a year now. Figure skating is also a main focus; I train every day, and am flying to Los Angeles to take lessons from coaches at a camp there; when I get back, I’ll be testing in front of judges in Sun Valley to level up. My summer training will culminate in Showcase Nationals, a huge competition where theatrical and artistic skating is the primary focus. After that, I look forward to another busy and productive year at Thacher!
