Natural Hot Tub w/ Views

by Alex-M :: Wednesday October 24, 2007

This fall I went on a seventy-five mile Trans-Sierra hiking trip with Mr. Coleman—a trip I’ll never forget. I have always had a passion for the mountains, but something about the Sierra really gets my blood pumping. Any opportunity I have to go up there, I’ll take it.

We started at about six thousand feet at Rowell Meadows, right on the southern edge of the Sequoia National Park. Day one was about fifteen miles. We camped right near a beautiful river near a ranger station. The next couple days were hard, waking up at six o’clock, hiking about five miles before breakfast and then contuing on with our day. It wasn’t until we got to the Kern Valley that I really didn’t ever want the trip to end. The Kern Valley’s at about seven thousand feet and has fast-rising, two thousand-foot walls. The Kern Valley is considered to be the heart of the Sierra, right in the dead center. A peaceful river runs along the right side of the valley, protected by huge pine trees. One night, we camped right by a hot spring and each of us could access the sublime tub whenever we wanted. I took two baths in the 108-degree water, basking in the the magestic view of the Kern Valley. That was a trip to remember.
